Dr. A.L. Martin , DVM, 90, of Crittenden, KY, entered his eternal home on Friday, November 15, 2024 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 12, 1934, in Florence, KY, he was the son of the late Cecil Jonah and Jessie Marian Lucas Martin.
On June 27, 1953, Dr. Martin and his wife, Margery, began a beautiful, committed relationship that lasted 71 years. Following graduation from Dixie Heights High School in 1952, he entered Eastern Kentucky University and later the University of Kentucky and in 1959 graduated from Auburn University as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. In 1959, he started his veterinary practice in Williamstown; in 1964 he moved his practice to Crittenden, where he named it Cedarwood Veterinary Clinic. He became the first Veterinarian to graduate from veterinarian school and continue to practice in Grant County; he also helped organize the first agricultural district in Grant County. Dr. Martin was a past Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America; he held memberships in Northern KY Veterinarian Association, KY Veterinarian Association; American Veterinary Association, American Animal Hospital, the NRA and Crittenden Baptist Church; he was ordained as a deacon in 1994.
Dr. Martin had a deep and sincere relationship with his Lord. Recently, upon being asked by his attending physician, “You do know you are dying, right?”; to which he replied, “Then God is finished with me here.”
He leaves to carry on his legacy of care and compassion, his wife, Margery B. Martin of Crittenden, KY; one daughter: Laurel (late Don) Reed of Conyers, GA; two sons: John A. (Etsuko) Martin of Lenoir City, TN, Daniel (late Rhonda) Martin of Crittenden, KY and one brother: Dr. Cecil D. Martin of Carrollton, KY, along with five grandchildren: Christopher (Allison) Martin, Lyndsey (Glen) Wilson, Whitney Reed, Jessica Reed and David Martin and three great-grandchildren: Reed Wilson, Riley Wilson and Wyatt Wilson. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mable Wall.
Visitation will be Saturday November 23, 2024 from 10:30 a.m. till 1:00 p.m. at Crittenden Baptist Church. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 with Pastor Matt Holleran officiating. Interment will follow in Hill Crest Cemetery in Dry Ridge. Services will be live-streamed from the Crittenden Baptist Church Facebook page beginning at 1:00.
