Mr. Edward E. Burton, a Dry Ridge resident, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, November 8, 2021 at the age of 78. He was the husband of Jo Evelyn Reynolds Burton.
Ed Burton lived his life for his family and with much love for his country. He met Jo Evelyn Reynolds in high school and they married on June 4, 1966 in Providence, KY. After receiving a bachelor and master’s degree in Business Administration and ROTC, Ed proudly served as an officer in the United States Army, teaching in the Infantry School at Ft. Benning, GA. In October of 1967 Ed served as a combat infantry officer in Vietnam, completing his tour as a First Lieutenant and returning home safely in October of 1968. Upon return, Ed moved his wife and small daughter, Jennifer, to Northern Kentucky where he accepted a position as a Business teacher at Northern Kentucky Vocational Technical School. He became principal of NKVTS and retired from there after more than 30 years. In 1973, Ed and Jo moved to Crittenden and welcomed a second daughter, Misty. They lived in the same address for 30 years before moving to Dry Ridge. Ed kept busy by following all of his grandchildren in sports and other activities. Those who knew him understood his deep commitment to his family, country, and God.
Ed was a member of the Violet Ridge Church of Christ. He enjoyed golf, fishing, traveling with his family and was an avid reader. He loved to watch UK basketball, Bengals, Reds, Murray State Racers and NKU Norse golf. His family describes Ed as a very patriotic man whom loves his country dearly and defined the phrase of being "a true officer and a gentleman". He was so dedicated to his family that he never missed a ballgame or golf match that his children or grandchildren participated in.
In addition to his wife Jo, Ed is survived by two daughters, Jennifer (Kevin) Wright of Walton, KY, Misty (Greg) Middleton of Williamstown, KY, one brother, Bill (Sharon) Burton of Eddieville, KY, three granddaughters, Macy Wright, Carly Middleton, Haley Jo Middleton and one grandson, Zach (Sara) Wright .
