Emery Porter ”E.P.” Whaley , 80, of Crittenden, KY, passed away on Wednesday August 28, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Hospice Care in Edgewood. Born on November 26, 1943 in Covington, KY, he was the son of the late Emery Mathew and Gladys Margaret Kinman Whaley.
Emery was a 1961 graduate of Williamstown High School. Upon graduation he was drafted into the U.S. Army as served two years. As a young man he began a long career with Consolidated Freightways; first, as a dock worker, then working his way up to a short-haul pick-up and delivery driver in Cincinnati but his heart was always on the farm. He enjoyed working the farm, hunting and fishing; he took pride in growing a bountiful vegetable garden. In his later years, he found much satisfaction and contentment in “piddling around” on the farm. He and his late wife, Jo Ella Sue Conover Whaley, loved taking trips to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge and being “snowbirds’ in Florida during the winter.
Survivors include one son: Jamie Whaley of Hebron, KY; one daughter: Stephanie L. Whaley of Williamstown, KY; two sisters: Janet (Charlie) Zumwalt of Cincinnati, OH, Margaret Ann McKinsey of Dry Ridge, along with two “bonus” children: Jeff Wallace of Reading, OH, Doug Brown of Loveland, OH and four “bonus” grandchildren: Brayden, Tara, Jacob and Jared. In addition to his wife, Jo Ella Whaley, he was preceded in death by a sister: Saundra McLafferty Link.
