Emma Jean Bowen

Emma “Jean” Bowen , 88, a resident of Demossville, KY, died Monday July 22, 2019 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood, KY. Born on September 7, 1930 in Grant Co., KY, she was the daughter of the late George and Hallie Mitts Taylor.

On February 28, 1948 Jean was united in marriage to Roy. J. “Jug” Bowen; he preceded her in death on April 20, 1981. She started her work career at a young age working at Bowen and Mann Grocery in Demossville; she also worked at Whippy Dip, Family Fare and after retirement, she worked for Showplace Nursery in Dry Ridge. She was a lifelong and faithful member of Gardnersville Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons: Jeffrey A. Bowen of Gardnersville, KY, Mitchell Bowen of Dry Ridge, KY and two daughters: Connie Sumpter of Gardnersville, KY and Brenda Mann of Piner, KY. Five grandchildren also survive: Nicole Lafollette, Caitlyn Bowen, Gracie Jean Bowen, Stacy Wilson and Shane Sumpter, along with 5 great-grandchildren. Jean was preceded in death by a son: Dennis James Bowen; grandson, Scott Wilson and all six of her siblings: Forrest Taylor, Bill Taylor, Fred Taylor, Snookie Hensley, Louella Race and Claudie Gibson.

Visitation will be Wednesday July 24 ^th at Stanley Funeral Homes (Williamstown location) from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at Gardnersville Baptist Church Thursday July 25 ^th at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Joe Kozar officiating. Visitation will also be Thursday morning at the church from 11:00 until the time of the funeral. Burial will be in the Gardnersville Cemetery.
