Gary Melvin Sunby

Gary Melvin Sunby, a Dry Ridge, KY resident, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2024 in Cincinnati, OH at the age of 85.  He was born to the late Melvin Ollie and Pearl Iola Halvorson Sunby on October 14, 1938 in Grafton, North Dakota.

On December 10, 1960 Gary was united in marriage to the love of his life, the late Leona Darlene Karol who preceded him in death.

Gary, was a Chief Warrant Officer with the United States Army where he earned a bachelor's degree, a member of the Community Lutheran Church in Las Vegas, NV, a patriotic member of the VFW, and the American Legion.  He loved woodworking, riding motorcycles and was a previous member of the Goldwing Road Riders.  Gary will be sadly missed by his family, friends, and loved ones.

He is survived by his son; Anthony Sunby and his wife Kristen of Round Lake Beach, IL, a daughter; Jill Strange of Dry Ridge, two sisters; Gayle McMullen and her husband Ed, of Oro Valley, AZ, Gloria Thomas of Nisswa, MN, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, Gary was preceded in death by his son, Steven Sunby, his daughter, Terri Sunby and his son-in-law, Jerry Strange.

Memorial Services for Gary will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 3:30 p.m. at American Legion Post 277 in Walton, KY.  Following the memorial service Full Military Honors will be observed.
