George Ray Smith

George “Ray” Smith , 80, of Williamstown, KY, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday October 19, 2024 at his residence.  Born on March 6, 1944, in Pineville, KY, he was the son of the late Bynum C. and Ella Long Smith.

One September 3, 1964, he married the former Doshie Lee Perry; she preceded him in death on January 2nd of this year. Ray retired after 30 years from General Motors, where he specialized in Electro-Motive Diesels (EMD) “The Great Outdoors” brought him much fulfillment; he loved hunting, fishing, trap shooting and boating. He held memberships in Crittenden AAA – Gun Club, National Rifle Association (Lifetime Member), Maywood Sportsman Club, Naperville Rod and Gun Club and United Auto Workers Union.

Leaving to carry on his love and appreciation for life includes one son: George Randel Smith of Williamstown, KY; one sister: Norma (Jimmy) Polly of Nancy, KY, along with his two beautiful granddaughters: Taylor (Tyler) Trosper and Faith Smith, who lovingly called him “Papaw”.

Visitation will be Wednesday October 23, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Stanley Funeral Homes - Williamstown.  Funeral services will follow at 1:00 at the funeral home.  Burial will follow in the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.
