Gerald Samuel Mefford

Gerald Samuel Mefford , 88, a resident of the New Columbus Community of Corinth, passed away Tuesday November 26, 2019 at Compassionate Care Hospice Center in Richmond, KY. Born on Sunday August 23, 1931 in Owen Co, KY, he was the son of the late Ward Wheatley and Flossie Mae Southward Mefford.

Gerald was a proud Veteran, having served in the U.S. Army from April 8, 1950 to March 31, 1953. He will long be remembered for how he enjoyed making people laugh, how he loved teasing all the children at church and giving them candy, along with his love for Thelma Martin’s Fried apple pies. He was a member of New Columbus Baptist Church.

On October 27, 2017, Gerald was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, the former Mary Joan Adams, whom he married on March 8, 1957. Survivors include one daughter: Karen Hensley (Lee Stanton) of Waco, KY and two sons: Jeff (Lisa) Mefford of Lexington, KY and Greg Mefford of Corinth, KY and one sister: Lois Evelyn Skirvin of Edgewood, KY. Four grandchildren also survive: Morgan Taylor Conrad, Makala Tate Hensley,  Madison Trae Hensley and Lyndsay Nicole Mefford along with one great-grandson: Jace Allen Conrad. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Macie Tane Hensley.

Visitation will be Saturday November 30 ^th at New Columbus Baptist Church, located at 16185 New Columbus Rd. Corinth, KY 41010 (Owen Co.) from 12 Noon to 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 with Rev. Brad Vincent officiating. Interment will be in New Columbus Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Kevin Page, Clinton House, Gary Kelly, Tommy Scott, Jeff Adkins and Jesse Pugh.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gerald’s memory toward the funeral expenses, in care of McDaniel or Stanley Funeral Homes.
