Gertrude Wanda Richerson passed away at the age of 93 on Sunday, April 13th, 2025 at Emerald Trace Senior Care Facility in Elsmere, KY. Gertrude was born in Napoleon, Kentucky on Wednesday, April 29th, 1931. She was the daughter of the late Dolien Lee Richerson and Anna Almira Jeannette Wever Burgess Richerson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her six siblings: Margaret Ida Burgess Oder, Irene Jeannette Burgess Crawley, Bessie Lee Leist Friis, Lillian Hope Richerson, Lewis Dudley Richerson, Sherman Joseph Richerson and several nieces and nephews. Gert is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, as well as great and great great nieces and nephews.
The youngest daughter of a farmer, Gert knew the meaning of hard work. Whether in the field or the kitchen, she put in long hours to help the family get by. Canning was a given with countless jars of fruit and vegetables put up every year. After the family moved to Grant County, Gert attended Dry Ridge High School, graduating in 1950. After graduation, she went to work for Kresge/K-Mart in Edgewood, retiring from there after 35 years of service. Her devotion to family and friends brought her back to the Crittenden area where she was a custodian at Crittenden Mount Zion Elementary School for two and a half years. Gert helped care for parents, siblings, and many others until her health prevented her from doing so.
Gert was a member of the Gardnersville Baptist Church for more than 71 years, supporting them with her presence and active participation in all of their activities until due to declining health she moved to an assisted living facility in Florence, KY. She enjoyed word search puzzles, playing games, flowers and music- both country and gospel. She loved her family, her church family and her friends. She will be greatly missed by all.
A visitation for Gertrude will be held from 9:30AM to 11:00AM on Friday, April 18th, 2025 at the Stanley Funeral Home in Crittenden, KY, with a funeral service immediately following beginning at 11:00AM. Gert's final resting place will be in the Gardnersville Cemetery where she will be laid to rest alongside her beloved sister, Lillian. Following the committal service, there will be food provided by the family at the Gardnersville Baptist Church in Gardnersville, KY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Gardnersville Baptist Church, the Grant County Gideons, or to the American Cancer Society in Gert's memory.
