Henry Fountain Clayton Jr, of Corinth, Kentucky, passed away suddenly at his residence on Thursday evening, November 30th, 2023; he was 67 years old. Henry was born in Newport, KY on Sunday, February 26th, 1956 to the late Henry Clayton Sr. and Vivian Creekmore Clayton. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three of his siblings: Denise Allee, Rene Ackman, and David Clayton.
Henry was an incredibly hardworking man all of his life, with an entrepreneurial spit that began at a young age. As a young man he owned and operated a gas station/convenience store in Mount Auburn, KY- Clayton General Store. Later he began his own signage business, Unique Signs and Graphics, designing and customizing business signs and advertising for local companies. Henry owned and operated his own trucking company for a number of years as well, HFC Trucking, overseeing a fleet of semis that shipped goods all across the state and throughout the country. Within the last couple years, Henry turned his lifelong fondness of woodworking into yet another business. His family will forever treasure all the benches, flowerpots, crosses, fountains, birdhouses, and jewelry boxes that he constructed for them. He was a master at his craft and his memory will forever live on in all the beautiful, unique pieces he was able to create with nothing more than the tools in his shop and his bare hands.
Henry is survived by his three children: Crystal Robinson of Williamstown, KY, Autumn Nichole (Derek) Caldwell, and Travis Clayton of Corinth, KY; as well as the Love of His Life, Sue Hurst. He had many cherished nieces and nephews, but he jokingly called Tara Wright “his favorite niece”, who over the years became more like a daughter to him. In addition, he is survived by five of his siblings; his brother Ronnie (Stephanie) Clayton of Hebron, KY, and his sisters: Susan “Candy” (James) Green of Burlington, KY, Darlene (Johnny) True of Corinth, KY, Conna (Tom) Rauen of Indiana, and Michelle (“Speedy”) Mosley of Florence, KY. Henry leaves a lasting legacy of his four treasured Grandchildren: Tessa, Tre, Mikey, and Angelina; and three Great-Grandchildren.
A jokester at heart, Henry was constantly playing tricks on his kids and the rest of the family every chance he had. No one was safe from a jump-scare around the corner or a leg pull from under a table when he was around. He enjoyed gambling and playing cards, and nothing was held more sacred than the Poker Nights held every Friday and Saturday night at the family house. He was a “Total Patriot”, never afraid to share his views on politics and display his adoration for this country. An outdoorsman through and through, Henry loved fishing at the lake and playing cornhole with the family during their lake trips, or being out in the woods on a hunt in search of deer, bears, rams; often hunting together with his family there by his side. One thing Henry made known was the love he held for his family. A true family man, his happiest times were those moments spent joking, playing, and spending quality time with his kids and loved ones.
