Howard “Hotty” Joseph Maher, Sr ., 75, a Walton resident, formerly of Cincinnati, died Tuesday August 20, 2019 at the home of a true friend after a courageous battle with cancer. Born April 19, 1944 in Cincinnati, he was the son of the late Howard and Bernadette Catherine McLafferty Maher.
“Hotty”, as he was affectionately known and loved, worked as a driller and blaster for R.C. Durr and Company, working many years in highway construction. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Cuban Crisis. He had a special interest in horses and loved boarding horses as well as following many bands that played a variety of music.
Survivors include his wife, Maria (aka: Toni) Head Maher; three sons: Martin "Marty" Maher of Mansfield, OH, Howard Joseph Maher, III of Cincinnati, Danny Penniff of Cincinnati; two daughters: Vicki Penniff and Tammy McKee, both of Cincinnati and one sister: Mary (Bobby) Loveless of Somerset, KY. Four grandchildren also survive: Michael McKee, Amanda McKee, Jonathon Maher and Kaitlyn Maher; one great-grandchild: Brayden M. Maher, along with a host of friends that “Hotty” dearly loved and in whom he considered his “extended family”. He was preceded in death by a brother: Martin Joseph Maher and three wives: Jane Maher, Phyllis Creasap Maher and Linda Dooley.
Visitation will be Friday August 23, 2019 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30: p.m. at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Homes in Williamstown. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 at Stanley Funeral Homes - Williamstown with Father Louie officiating. Burial will follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery – North in Williamstown with full Military Honors.
