Howard Gilmer Thomas, of Dayton, KY, five days after his 97th birthday, entered his eternal home on Saturday July 20, 2024 at Ohio Valley Nursing and Rehab in Ripley, OH. Born on July 15, 1927, in Springdale, WV, he was the son of the late Earl and Cora Hoke Thomas. Over the years, he worked as a Maintenance Supervisor at several apartment complexes; he worked in various construction projects and also served as a Manager for Kroger’s. He was married to the former Martha America McNeil; she preceded him in death on April 11, 2016. On September 21, 1945 he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he courageously served his country during WW II. Because of his heroic valor, he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Covington, KY. He is survived by two sons, Robert Earl Thomas of Missouri, Ricky Wayne Thomas and a very special friend and caregiver, Brenda Lovins of Brooksville, KY. Howard will be laid to rest beside his fellow servicemen following graveside services on Monday July 29, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery – North (KVC-N); full Military Honors will be observed.
