Mr. and Mrs. James (Janet) Bowling, Sr. of Dry Ridge, KY entered their heavenly home just four hours apart. Janet died late Thursday evening December 2, 2021 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center – Edgewood. James died Friday December 3 shortly after midnight at Boonespring Nursing and Rehab Center.
James Allen Bowling, Sr. was born February 22, 1954 in Kenton County, KY; he was the son of the late Robert and Dorothy Fortner Bowling. Janet Lou Varney Bowling was born December 2, 1955 in Pike County, KY; she was the daughter of Vada J. Johnson Varney and the late Keen Varney, Jr.
Both James and Janet were life-long school teachers. James taught Graphic Design at Grant Co. High School; previously, he taught Industrial Arts and coached football at Betsy Layne High School in Floyd County, along with driving a school bus; he received his Bachelor's Degree from EKU. He was a master woodworker and was known for being a movie buff.
Janet taught Family Consumer Science Education at both Grant Co. High School and Belfry High School in Pike County. She was an avid reader, she loved cooking and baking and along with her husband, they loved shopping, yard sales and antiquing. She received her Master's Degree from EKU. They were both members of Gardnersville Baptist Church.
James and Janet leave to celebrate their legacy, two daughters: Jennifer Bowling, Brandie Bowling; two sons: James (Karen) Bowling, Jr., Brian Bowling. James has one brother: Gary (Barb) Bowling and a sister-n-law, Beth Bowling, all of Dry Ridge, KY. Five grandchildren also survive: Seth Bowling, Jacob Bowling, Lily Bowling, Carter Bowling and Carly Bowling, along with their “grand-pup”, Forrest. James was preceded in death by two brothers: Guy Bowling and Greg Bowling.
Joint services will be held Friday December 10, 2021 with visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Stanley Funeral Homes, Williamstown location. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 with Rev. Joe Kozar officiating. Burial will follow in Hill Crest Cemetery.
