James William Penick was born May 19, 1933 in Dry Ridge, Kentucky and passed away peacefully Nov. 1, 2021 at his residence in Dry Ridge, Kentucky at the age of 88 as he was surrounded by his family.  He was preceded in death by his parents, William Lee and Sarah Rachel Roberts Penick.

Buddy, as he was known by his family and friends, was united in marriage on Sept. 1, 1956 to Peggy Ann Price Penick.  In addition to his wife of 65 years, he is survived by 3 sons: Tony Penick, Gregory "Rocky" Penick and Michael Shane Penick all of Dry Ridge; a daughter: Jama Penick of Dry Ridge; a sister: Carolyn Sue Penick of Fairview, TN; 3 grandchildren: Lindsey Penick Magee, Seth Penick and Jared Penick; and 4 great grandchildren: Bentley Magee, Ava Magee, Aden Penick and Brycen Penick.

He tried to join the US Navy but was discharged due to having "flat feet"; however, it was just a short time later that he was able to serve his country as he was drafted into the US Army and served in the 24th Division in the Korean Conflict.  After being discharged from the military, Buddy worked in Shipping and Receiving for Consolidated Freightways where he retired after 35+ years of service.

Buddy truly loved country living and was a true outsdoorsman.  When he was younger he was an avid hunter and loved gardening as he grew older. His greatest passion was his horses.  In addition to spending time outdoors, he was a huge UK Basketball fan and enjoyed watching games with his family.

Preceding him in death was a son: Jeff Penick in 1997; 2 brothers: Harold Penick and Meryle Dean Penick; and 3 sisters: Skeeter Davis, Shirley Elfers and Susan Marley.
