Born December 5, 1959 in Danville, Kentucky, James was the son of late Jimmy Strevels and Janice Marie Boyd Dean. Raised by his loving grandparents, Jim and Tine Strevels, James grew up with a strong foundation of integrity, hard work, and devotion to family.
It was in Danville where he met his wife Laura Martin Strevels. The pair wed on August 13, 1988. James and Laura shared 36 years of love and unwavering commitment. Together, they raised three sons: James Christopher (Lisa) Strevels of Lancaster, KY; William David Strevels of Stanford, KY; and Eric Michael (Lili) Strevels of Dry Ridge, KY.
James worked as a land surveyor with Hicks & Mann for many years, where he poured dedication and skill into every project. Known for his quiet kindness, James enjoyed meeting clients and took great pride in his work. Apart from his work, James loved to hunt and fish, sharing these passions with family and friends. True to his character, James was a present husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and uncle. His hobbies often included showing up for his family; whether at his son Eric’s high school football games, working with his son Chris at his bottling plant, traveling and exploring new places with his wife Laura, never missing a family event, or showering his grandchildren with his love and attention, James was a family man to his core.
Above all else, James was a man of faith. His family has peace knowing that he endures no more pain or sickness and was welcomed into Heaven where he now rests.
His quiet strength, wisdom, dedication, and unconditional love will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all those who knew him.
