Jewel Velva Bruce of Mason, Kentucky

October 14, 1921 - December 17, 2018

Jewel Velva Bruce , 97, a resident of Mason, KY, and widow of Kelly Bruce, passed away Monday December 17, 2018. Born October 14, 1921 in Grant Co., KY, she was the daughter of the late Everett Lee and Shirley Caldwell West.

She was married to Kelly Bruce; he preceded her in death December 16, 1996. She was a retired U. S. Postmaster at the Mason Post office; she retired from that position in 2011 at the age of 90. She was a 63 year member of the Mason Baptist Church where she served faithfully in many capacities in the various ministries of the church, including pianist and organist. She also held membership in the Grant Co. Women’s Club, Mason’s Homemakers, Grant Co. Historical Society, Women’s Missionary Union and Crittenden Associational Missions Committee.

Survivors include three sons: R. K. (Suzanne) Bruce, Jr. of Louisville, KY, Lee (Sandy) Bruce of Mason, KY, Neil Scott (Karen) Bruce of Mason, KY and one nephew: Gary (Debbie) Winn of Florence, KY. Eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren also survive.

Visitation will be Thursday December 20, 2018 at Eckler-McDaniel Funeral Home in Dry Ridge from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted Friday December 21 at the funeral home at 1:00 with Dr. Paul Bodenhammer officiating. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery in Dry Ridge, KY.

R.K. Bruce, Jr., Lee Bruce, Scott Bruce, Baylee Bruce, Klint Bruce and Gary Winn will serve as pallbearers; Clark Bruce, Keegan Faulkner and Joseph White will serve as honorary pallbearers.
