John Wesley Halsey was born May 6, 1927 in Oakdale, Kentucky and passed away April 23, 2022 at his home in Crittenden, Kentucky at the age of 94. He was the son of the late Richard and Nannie Newton Halsey.
John was a retired parts man for Bowen Farm Supply in Gardnersville and had also worked for Woody Butler in Nicholson. He later worked as a custodian for 10 years at Crittenden-Mt. Zion Elementary School.
He was a WWII Veteran having proudly served our country as a member of the United States Army Air Corps. He was a member of the NRA as well as a "lifetime member" of the Grant County Farmers Market. John enjoyed many hobbies, especially those in which he worked with his hands including woodworking and building or working on guns and knives.
On Jan. 9, 1971, John was united in marriage to Juanita Stroud Poe Halsey who preceded him in death on April 24, 2009. In addition, he was preceded in death by a son, John Richard Halsey, and 8 siblings, Wilson Halsey, Calvin Halsey, Cleda Halsey, Lowell Halsey, James Halsey, Alpha Wenzel, Rheda Daugherty and Harold Halsey.
He is survived by three sons: George Wesley Halsey of Norway, James Wayne Halsey (Judy) of Cincinnati and Rick Joe Mains (Brenda) of Crittenden; 4 daughters: Elizabeth Lynn Craddock of Elsmere, Barbara Sue Kerr (Jerry) of Ft. Mitchell, Julie Ann Bryant (Tim) of Greensboro, NC and Tammy Lee Stephenson (Rodney) of Dry Ridge; two sisters: Mary Ann Froelicher of Walton and Ruth Ewing of Florence; 12 Grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 6:30 PM, Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Crittenden, with Rev. Kerry Dale Spencer officiating. Visitation will be 3:30 PM - 6:30 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Graveside services with Military Honors will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at Hill Crest Cemetery in Dry Ridge.
