John Reed Lowry

John Reed Lowry , 97, a resident of Dry Ridge, KY, passed away at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood on Wednesday January 27, 2021. Born July 2, 1923 in South Pittsburg, TN, he was the son of the late George Elmer and Inez Brown Lowry.

On May 21, 1944, John was united in marriage to the former Linnie Gertrude Killian; she preceded him in death on April 13, 2017 after almost 73 years of marriage.  John had quite an illustrious military career; he committed his life to loving and serving his country.  He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served in WW II, Korea and Vietnam. He retired with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer – 4. He worked in Avionics as an Electrical Engineer. He loved traveling with his wife and in his early years he enjoyed golfing, playing tennis, horse racing and dog racing.  He was well-versed in Scripture; he was a member of First United Methodist Church in Smyrna, GA and attended the Walton United Methodist Church.

He leaves to carry on his legacy, one son: John (Carolyn) Lowry of Dry Ridge and one daughter: Susan (Jeff) Dickerson of Ponte Vedra, FL.  Two grandsons also survive: Christopher Jay Lowry and Michael Clinton Lowry, along with one great-grandson: Wyatt Halcomb Lowry.  In addition to his wife, Linnie, he was preceded in death by a sister: Evelyn Lowry Richardson.

A committal service will be held at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery – North (KVC-N) at a later date at the convenience of the family with full military honors.
