Mr. John McBeath Rankin, a Williamstown resident, surrounded by loving family, peacefully passed away at his residence on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at the age of 89. He was the caring and faithful husband to Addie Rose Toole Rankin for 68 years.
John was born in Stanford, KY on November 30, 1932 to the late Robert Lindsay Rankin and Flora Ion McBeath Rankin. He attended the University of Kentucky where he studied Agriculture for two years at which time he met the love of his life, Addie Rose Toole. He soon after, enrolled in the United States Air Force where he faithfully served his country for the next two years.
John retired from the US Department of Agriculture after 37 years, serving Grant, Scott and Boone counties as a Soil Conservation Technician. He was a member of the Family Worship Center in Williamstown, KY. He was a former cattle and tobacco farmer. He taught conservation to elementary school children as an educational representative serving the Grant County Soil Conservation District. He was a former Masonic Lodge member, Boy Scout Explorer leader, volunteer adult literacy teacher, Sunday School teacher, avid reader and writer, KY Colonel, storyteller, UK Basketball fan, mechanic and a creative problem solver. He had perfected the art of basket weaving and loved western movies and books. He loved to learn about the history of Native Americans and follow his heritage. He is described by family as a Christian man of God, loving father, a friend to everyone, avid storyteller, and mentor to many.
In addition to his wife Addie Rose, John is survived by three daughters, Mary Beth (Mark) Finn, Lucy (Lee) Morrison, Elizabeth Anne (Troy) Minkanic, , five grandchildren, Cole Morrison, Laura Morrison, Addie Rose Combs Mian, Donovan Huff, Mason Minkanic and three great-grandchildren. John was preceded in death by one daughter, Margaret "Margee" Rose Combs, two sisters, Christine Lynn, Thelma Thomas Rankin and one brother, Robert Lindsay Rankin, Jr.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Sunday, April 3, 2022 from 1:30PM until 5:00PM at the Family Worship Center, 1380 N. Main Street, Williamstown, KY.
