Jordan Douglas Sullivan, 40 years old, of Walton, Kentucky, ended the struggles of this life on Monday, August 26, 2024. Born on February 12, 1984, in Cabell County, West Virginia, he was the beloved son of Regina Speagle Sullivan and Terry Douglas Sullivan. Jordan proudly joined the United States Marine Corps on August 13, 2001, prior to his senior year in high school. After graduating from Jimtown High School in Elkhart, Indiana, in 2002, he attended boot camp in San Diego, California, and School of Infantry at Camp Pendleton in Southern California. He was an expert rifle shooter and was the top shot of his infantry camp company of approximately 250 Marines. He was then assigned to the 1st Battalion of the 7th Marines and was stationed at The Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, California, where he earned the rank of corporal. He served three tours of duty in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom between February 2, 2003 and March 20, 2005. Jordan was introduced to the martial arts during his time in the military and elected to complete the Martial Arts Instructor Course. After being honorably discharged from the Marine Corps, he continued training and teaching mixed martial arts and found this work very rewarding. He trained with multiple world Jiu-Jitsu champions and successfully competed in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments internationally. His first white belt competition was in 2007. Six years later, he earned a black belt. Jordan's profound commitment and dedication to the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) for the next nine years saw him achieve his 3rd degree BJJ black belt in 2022. Jordan was the successful owner/operator of Triple Crown MMA in Florence, Kentucky. He taught martial arts to many in this area. COVID shutdown in 2020 brought a dark chapter to his life. Jordan was much more than a Marine or a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu artist and instructor. He loved the outdoors. Hiking, camping, mountain climbing, hunting, and fishing were some of his favorite activities. Time spent interacting with nature was the place where Jordan found his connection to the Divine. Jordan was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother, Regina Speagle Sullivan of Independence; his two beautiful daughters, Annabelle Jane Sullivan and Eloise Claire Sullivan, both of Verona; his sister, Sara Elizabeth Sullivan of Glencoe; two nieces, Meliah Lynn Sullivan and Adyleigh Renae Sullivan; very special aunts and uncles, and beloved cousins, as well as a host of extended family and friends.
