Mr. Joseph A. Hammel, a Williamstown resident, passed on to be with our Lord on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at the St. Elizabeth Hospice Center in Edgewood, KY at the age of 71. He was the widower of Nola Kay Spegal Hammel.
On August 16, 1948, Joseph was one of 12 children born to the late John Raymond "Jack" Hammel and Mary A. Meimann Hammel. In 1968 Joe served in the U.S. Marine Corps and fought in Vietnam. On September 1, 1970, he was united in marriage to his loving wife Nola Spegal Hammel. They were happily married for 45 years. From this union was born Lynda Marie Breeden. After five years of service in the Marines, he later worked as a driver for Pepsi Cola for 15 years. In recent years he was a machine operator for Monti Inc. where he was fortunate to be able to work alongside two of his brothers, James and Thomas. He retired in 2010. Joe was a member of the Revive GC Church in Dry Ridge, KY. He loved to the outdoors. He was a hunter, fisherman and loved "funny sayings". He was a former little league coach early in life and he dearly loved to spend time with his daughter and grandchildren. He lived his life serving our Lord and Savior and was dedicated to his church and church family.
In addition to his late parents and wife Nola, Joe is preceded in death by two brothers, John and James. He is survived by one daughter, Lynda (Earl II) Breeden of Williamstown, KY, five brothers, Paul (Linda) Hammel of Carrollton, KY, Michael Hammel of Park Hills, KY, Thomas (Tonya) Hammel of Newport, KY, Steven (Kelly) Hammel of Ludlow, KY, Timothy M. Hammel of Ludlow, KY, four sisters, Mary A. Hammel of Ludlow, KY, Ethel M. Means of Ludlow, KY, Judy (Joey) Sergent of Erlanger, KY, Patty L. Werner of Erlanger, KY, one sister-in-law, Ruthann Hammel of Union, KY, two grandchildren Earl Joseph "E.J." (DeAnna Lillian-jalia Griffith) Breeden, III of Georgetown, KY, Autumn Breeze (Hunter) Henson of Wilmore, KY and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration-of-life service will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 from 6-9pm at the Revive GC Church, 2020 Taft Highway, Dry Ridge, KY 41035. Pastor Earl Breeden II will be officiating services. Elliston - Stanley Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Memorials are suggested to the Revive GC Youth Group Building Fund.
