Joseph "Joe" Boyd Jones

Joseph "Joe" Boyd Jones, 84, of Verona, KY, died Monday December 19, 2022 at his residence.  Born on Sunday October 9, 1938 in Boone County, KY, he was the son of the late Louis Boyd and Dora Ethel Rust Jones.

On June 20, 1959 at South Fork Christian Church, Joe was united in marriage to the former Juanita Rose Baker; she survives. Until his retirement, he worked as a carpenter for the Covington Board of Education. He was a lifelong farmer and was a member of the Scale Carpenters Union.  Being a part of a community-minded family, he faithfully served his community as a firefighter; for over 20 years he served on the Board of Directors for the Verona Fire Protection District and formerly served as a Deacon and Elder at South Fork Christian Church.  His current church membership was at Violet Ridge Church of Christ.

In addition to his wife of 63 years, Juanita Rose Jones, he is survived by two sons: Stephen Ray (Elaine) Jones, David William (Sheryl) Jones and one daughter: Anita Jo Jones, all of Verona; two sisters: Betty Bayer of Warsaw and Joyce Masters of Verona, two step-sisters: Wilma (Chuck) Minnix of Williamstown, Daisy (Pete) Howitz of Florence; one step-brother: Jeff (Chris) Hamilton of Verona, along with five grandchildren: Stacey Jones, Courtney Jones, Madison Jones, Zachary Jones and Morgan Jones, all of whom lovingly called him “Papaw”. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.  He was preceded in death by two sisters: Janet Poole, Mary Lou Jones; one  brother: Stephen Ellis Jones and two step-brothers: George Hamilton and Jerry Hamilton.

Visitation will be Monday December 26, 2022 from 5:00 till 9:00 p.m. at Hamilton - Stanley Funeral Homes – Verona.  Funeral services will be Tuesday morning December 27 at 11:00 with Pastor Tommy Simpson officiating.  Burial will follow in New Bethel Cemetery in Verona.
