Mrs. Joyce Ann Burchett Readnour passed away at her residence in Berry, KY on Monday, June 29, 2020 at the age of 75. She was the wife of Harry Readnour.
Joyce was born in Corbin, KY on December 24, 1944 to the late James Howard Burchett and Dora Carr. Joyce from a young age played the piano. She graduated from the Walton-Verona High School as the Valedictorian. She met the love of her life shortly after while playing in a piano recital at the New Bethel Baptist Church in Verona, KY. On May 13, 1966, Joyce was united in marriage to Harry Lail Readnour. From this union was born one son and daughter. Kenneth H. Readnour of Berry, KY and Angela M. (Jeffrey) Edwards of Berry, KY. She is also survived by one brother, Dwight Dallas Burchett of Tampa, FL, one sister Angela Darlene Boleyn of Crescent Springs, KY, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by one great grandson, Hunter Readnour.
As a teenager, Joyce was known for her height and played as a center for the Walton-Verona High School. She graduated from the KY Baptist Nursing College. She went on to work as a surgical nurse for 41 years at several hospitals. She also was a former health educator for several school systems. In former years, she enjoyed hunting, fishing and shooting. She loved to drive and ride on motorcycles and trikes with her husband, Harry. Joyce and Harry recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary. Her family describes her as UK basketball's biggest fan! She is a member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church and the Oak Ridge Baptist Church. She was a former pianist at the Orchard St. Baptist Church, Victory Baptist Church, and the Stewartsville Baptist Church. Her life revolved around her work and her grandkids. She adored and cherished every minute she could spend with them.
Visitation will be Monday, July 6, 2020 from 11am-1pm at the Elliston - Stanley Funeral Home in Williamstown, KY. Funeral services will be at 1pm. Burial will follow at the New Bethel Cemetery in Verona, KY. Officiating services will be Rev. Willie Ailstock and Rev. Lawrence Longworth. Memorials are suggested to the Pleasant View Baptist Church.
