K aren Marie Simpson , 64, of Williamstown, KY passed away Sunday December 27, 2020 at her residence. Born July 29, 1956 in Owenton, KY, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Clayton and Edna Mae Milner Simpson.
Karen was a 1974 graduate of Kings Mills High School in Kings Mills, OH. After 25 years as a Union Steward with General Telephone in Lexington, and her health steadily declining, she reluctantly had to take medical retirement. She lived a remarkable and inspiring life, always eliminating the negative and accentuating the positive in every walk and avenue of her life. Diagnosed at any early age with Scoliosis, she beat all odds with the greatest of determination and positivity. She kept a daily journal she referred to as her “Letters to God”. In those writing she shared her deepest and intimate feelings to God; she shared her struggles of how she fought so gallantly to live a normal and productive life, in spite of the obstacles that stood before her. In her writings she furthermore, described how blessed her life has been; constantly testifying that “I’m Blessed!!” She will long be remembered for her invigorating smile…regardless of the pain and circumstances she was enduring. Her greatest loves was for God, family, Kentucky Wildcats and the Oregon Ducks!!
She was a retired member of Communications Workers of American. She was a member of Grant Co. Baptist Church, but when she was unable to attend she faithfully tuned in to Southland Christian Church via their website.
Karen leaves to carry on her legacy, three sisters: Betty (Tony) Brewer of Dry Ridge, KY, Freddie Bosse and Glada Richardson, both of Williamstown, KY; one brother, Sam (Svitlana) of Albuquerque, NM. To all of her nieces and nephews, she was like a “Second Mother”; Ann, Sue, Huey, Carolyn, Kay, Tammy, Mike, Donna, Ginger, Stephen, Jason, Kelli, Angela, Brian, John, Matt and Lisa, along with 31 great nieces/nephews and 21 great-great nieces/nephews, all of whom affectionately called her ‘Nanny” or “Aunt Karen”. Last, but not least, she leaves her Chihuahua dog, Ms. Bentley to mourn her passing. She was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Simpson a sister: Ruby Vallandingham.
