Larry Marshall Atha

Larry Marshall Atha was born December 25th, 1927 in Elliston, KY, to Jess and Mary Schulker Atha.  He was the second of two sons.  His brother, Opal Clifton Atha, was killed in action on November 10th, 1944 in Lima, France during WWII.

He married Dorothy Jean Osborne on June 3rd, 1949.  They raised three children, Ronald Wayne, Dennis Marshall and Donna Jean.  Larry and Dorothy shared a life together for over 49 years.  Dorothy was always by his side, working on the family farm and making a home for their family.  She preceded him in death on June 10th, 1998.

Larry married his second wife, Louise Alsip Mercer on July 4th, 2002.  They were together for 16 years before her passing on August 28th, 2018.

Larry was a farmer all his life, and a Grant County school bus driver for 30 years.  He enjoyed wood working and raising a “Top Crop” garden.

He is survived by his three children, Ronnie Atha (Karen) of Dry Ridge, Dennis Atha (Debbie) of Verona and Donna Carnes (Jerry) of Dry Ridge.  He leaves 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

He passed from this life to be reunited with family and friends in heaven on August 17th, 2024.  He was 96 years, 7 month and 23 days.

Visitation will be Wednesday August 21, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. till 1:00 p.m. at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home – Verona.  Funeral services will begin at 1:00 with Rev. Howard Chipman officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his first wife, Dorothy Jean Atha in Napoleon Cemetery.
