Larry Eugene Franks

September 21, 1946 — April 23, 2020

Sergeant Larry Franks, a life long resident of Grant Co., passed away at his residence in Dry Ridge on Thursday, April 23, 2020 at the age of 73.

Larry was born in Mason, KY on September 21, 1946 to the late Samuel and Hazel Burns Franks.  He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1965 and served in field artillery during the Vietnam War.  He then transferred to the U.S. Army and dutifully served more than 25 years in service to this grateful nation.  He retired from the armed services at the rank of Sergeant First Class (SFC) as a U.S. Army Recruiter.

Larry loved to ride motorcycles, the Cincinnati Bengals, watching western movies and hunting.  For many years he was a cattle farmer and raised tobacco.  He was a D.A.V. member, a mason and a member of the American Legion.

Larry married Sandra Jean Franks and from this union was born two sons, Andrew J. Franks of Dry Ridge, KY, the late Adam J. (Candice) Franks, three daughters, Audra J. Franks of San Antonio, TX, Angela J. (Glenn) Tumaneng of Maui, HI, Amanda J. Franks of Cynthiana, KY, two sisters, Linda Webb of Ironton, OH, Patricia Franks of Ironton, OH and eight grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the KY Veteran's Cemetery Memorial Wreath fund.

A rolling drive thru service will be Friday, May 1, 2020 from 11:30-1:30pm at the Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home in Williamstown, KY.  Per state orders, do NOT exit your vehicle or stop. You will be able to receive memorial folders and leave your names for the register book.  Funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 1:50pm for a 2pm arrival at the KY Veterans Cemetery, North in Williamstown, KY.  Upon arrival at the KYVCN, per their regulations, you may slowly drive pass where the burial site is and exit the cemetery.  After one hour has passed, ten people may come back and pay their respects at the grave site. At a later date, Larry will be provided proper military honors at the cemetery and everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.  Please check back for posted times.  Feel free to leave online condolences here.
