Larry Shelby Haubner, 81, of Dry Ridge, KY, entered his eternal home on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood, surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 8, 1942, on the family farm in Falmouth, KY, he was the beloved son of the late Arthur and Alice Marie Brownfield Haubner.
Larry met the love of his life, Joyce Cummins, at a Sunday dinner following church. They were married on November 3, 1962, and were just a few weeks shy of celebrating their 62nd anniversary. Larry dedicated his career as a Tool Maker with General Electric Aircraft Engines in Cincinnati, Ohio, and even after retirement, he continued to work part-time as a machinist well into his 80s.
A man of quiet strength and unshakable faith, Larry set an example for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with his work ethic and willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need. He served his community as a volunteer fireman, EMT, and deacon at Sherman Church of Christ, always putting others first.
Larry’s greatest joy was spending time with his family. Whether working on the farm, tending to his garden, fishing, bird watching, or tinkering in his garage, he loved the simple pleasures of life. His green thumb was unmatched, a legacy his family strives to carry on. This year, he proudly grew an heirloom tomato weighing over a pound—a feat that family members could only admire and aspire to match.
Despite his many talents and accomplishments, nothing gave Larry more pride than his large, multigenerational family. He and Joyce created a legacy built on love, welcoming each new baby with open arms and sharing wisdom with each grandchild as they grew. Larry’s long, heartfelt prayers before every family meal reflected his gratitude for the life he was blessed to share with those he cherished.
Larry is survived by his devoted wife, Joyce, and their children: Arthur Wayne (Art) Haubner of Salem, NH; Connie Gay (Dennis) Gray of Dry Ridge ; Douglas Alan (Kimberly) Haubner of Berry, KY and Jeffrey Dale (Rachel) Haubner of Berry, KY. He also leaves behind 15 grandchildren, : Jessica (Casey) King, David (Darcy) Mefford, Tricia (Dusty) Gordon, Tiffany (Rod) Bundy, Tracy (Garrett) Uhlman, Christina (Tyler) Haubner, Quentin Haubner, Ashleigh (Jason) Wright, Emily (Tyler) Campbell, Morgan (Brandon) Hunt, Michael (Samantha) Haubner, Christopher (Jessica) Haubner, Dustin (Emily) Haubner, Austin (Meagan) Haubner and Lukas Haubner, and 24 great-grandchildren, who lovingly knew him as “Papaw.” Larry was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles and Paul Haubner, and his granddaughter, Cierra Nicole Haubner.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Stanley Funeral Homes in Williamstown. Funeral services will begin at 5:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Scotty Simpson.
