Leighton Craig Smith

Leighton Craig Smith, 85, of Corinth, KY, entered into his eternal rest on Friday, December 8,2023 at his residence after a lengthy illness.  Born on January 21,1938 in Frankfort, KY, he was the son of the late Edmond and Ora Mae Shepard Smith.

On July 25, 1964, Leighton was united in marriage to the former Elsie “Dee” Sturgill; she survives. In March of 1955, he entered the United States Air Force, where he served his country for four years. For 33 years he was a truck driver for Ed Foltz Trucking in Florence. He loved fishing, golfing, working on cars and telling stories to his likes; many years ago he worked as a mechanic for Piles Chevrolet. As a skilled plumber and electrician, he loved using his skills to help older people, charging them next to nothing for his services.  He had a deep and sincere love for his family and for the past 55 years, he has been a member of Corinth Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife of 59 years, “Dee”, he leaves to further his legacy, two daughters: Deshay (Mike) Burgess of Mt. Juliet, TN, Jody Lynn (late Allen) Gaines of Georgetown; one son: Gary Allen (Bonnie) Smith of Georgetown and one sister: Edith (late Charlie) Trombley.  Also surviving are six grandchildren: Donald Smith, Robin (Tony) Roberts, Michael Harrod, Austin Burgess, Nolan Burgess, Andrew Burgess along with numerous great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by a son: Barry Smith, a grandson, Allen Smith, a brother, Ernest “Red” Smith and a sister, Edna Hill Sams.

Visitation will be Thursday December 14, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon at Corinth Baptist Church.  Funeral services will begin at 12:00 with Rev. Jim Sears and Rev. Albert Smith officiating.  Burial will follow in Georgetown C emetery in Georgetown, KY.
