Leman Joe Stephens , 74, of Crittenden, KY, passed away Monday November 2, 2020 at his residence after a lengthy illness. Born July 29, 1946 in Cincinnati, OH, he was the son of the late Delmer and Inez Stephens.
On June 4, 1977, he was united in marriage to the former Betty Lou Mitts; she survives. He was a truck driver all of his adult life; he drove for Grant County Foods before retiring from Crossett Trucking after 23 years of service. Leman was very active in his community; he was very passionate about his work with the Walton-Verona Food Pantry, where he served for over 10 years. He loved “spreading the Good News” in the community and abroad through the ministries of Walton United Methodist Church. He faithfully served as a Mission Leader and was highly involved in the Emmaus Community. He was a graduate of Grant Co. High School.
He leaves to carry on his legacy, his wife of 43 years, Betty Lou; five sons: Brian (Angela) Stephens of Pensacola, FL, Troy Stephens of Dry Ridge, KY, Matthew (Christina) Stephens of Covington, KY, Joshua (Breeze) Stephens of Sasebo, Japan, Jacob (Brittany) Stephens of Knoxville, TN; one daughter: Dena (Curt) Wilson of Warsaw, KY; two brothers: Gary (Janet) Stephens of Dry Ridge, KY, Ronnie Stephens of Covington, GA and one sister: Sharon (Roger) Souder of Crittenden, KY. Eight grandchildren also survive: Ian (Lindsey) Stephens, Paige Wilson, Lane Wilson, Bailey (Madison) Wilson, Jayden Durban, Aneesa Stephens, Jolee Stephens, Ethan Stephens, along with three great-grandchildren: Austin, Liam and Amelia Grace. He was preceded in death by his parents, Delmer Stephens, Inez Stephens; father-in-law: Estill Mitts, mother-in-law: Joyce Mitts and a brother-in-law: Frank Mitts.
Visitation will be held Monday November 9, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Stanley Funeral – Crittenden. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 with Rev. Bill Conatser officiating. Burial will follow in Hill Crest Cemetery in Dry Ridge.
