Lewis Ray Setters of Warsaw, Kentucky passed away on Tuesday, June 27th, 2023 at Villaspring Nursing Facility in Erlanger, Kentucky at the age of 75. He was born in Covington, KY on Saturday, July 26th, 1947 to the late George Setters and Bonnie Knight. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Darline, who passed in October of last year. In addition to his wife and parents, Lewis is preceded in death by a brother, Dewey Setters, and his two sisters, Brenda Sue Baird and Bonita Jump.
Surviving are his two loving daughters, Teena (Ralph) Steele of Burlington, KY, and Carrie (John) Wilson of Florence, KY; as well as his brother, David “Butch” (Jeannie) Setters of Erlanger, KY.
Lewis was a 1966 graduate of Boone County High School and the Covington Vocational School for Carpentry. Upon graduating, he began his service in the United States Air Force. Throughout the years of his service, Lewis held a number of positions involving heavy equipment operations responsible for the maintenance, repair and construction of military airbases. Following his time in the Air Force, he used the knowledge and skills gained within the military for his career in commercial airlines. Lewis was a CDL equipment operator and supervising trainer of fellow CDL operators at the CVG International Airport where he eventually retired.
On Saturday, March 20th, 1971, Lewis married the love of his life, Darline Eve Barnes. The two were happily married for over 50 years, doing absolutely everything together in life. They towed their 5th wheel RV all across the country- camping, fishing, boating together whenever and wherever they got the chance. Later in life they enjoyed gardening side by side, and eventually a friendly competition ensued as they began to cultivate “His and Her Gardens” to settle any disputes of what to grow and who grew it the best. He said goodbye to “Goose”, their cherished Black Lab, shortly after Darline’s passing last fall; we can take solace knowing that the three of them are now together again.
Lewis leaves a legacy of his four treasured Grandchildren: Bryson (Hannah) Steele, Nicholas (Sabrina) Wilson, Natasha Steele, and Alyssa Wilson; as well as two Great-Grandchildren. Spending time with the Grandkids was what he considered his most special pass time in life.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will later be held privately at the convenience of the family.
