Lonnie Francis Gibson, 81 , of Florence, KY, passed away Monday June 21, 2021 at St. Elizabeth Hospice Center in Edgewood. Born December 2, 1939 in Owen County, KY, he was the son of the late Ira Collins and Eunice Blanche Hopper Gibson.
On February 22, 1964, Lonnie was united in marriage to the former Shelby Jean Kinman; she preceded him in death on September, 23, 2009. He worked in the Maintenance Department of St. Elizabeth – North in Covington for over 40 years. He loved hunting, riding dirt bikes and attending dirt bike races. He was a graduate of Owen Co. High School; he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Squiresville Baptist Church.
He leaves to carry on his legacy, one daughter: Londa (Scott) Maher of Burlington; one son: Adam (Casey) Gibson of Jacksonville, FL and one sister: Lucile Howard of Owenton. Five grandchildren also survive: Jordan Kummer, Victoria Lawrence, Taylor Maher, Daniel Stowell, Mackenzie Gibson, along with 5 great-grandchildren: Bryson, Luna, Atlas, Axton and Raelynn, all of whom lovingly called him “Papaw Lonnie”. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Glenmore Gibson and Cecil Collins Gibson, four half-brothers: Frank Burford, Jr., Paul Thomas Burford, Elmer Toby Gibson and Willie Gibson.
Visitation will be Friday June 25, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Squiresville Baptist Church in Owenton. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 with Rev. Craig Howard officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his wife in the Owenton I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
