Margaret Evans Poor, a Williamstown resident, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2024 at Grant Center in Williamstown at the age of 88. She was the widow of the late Ralph J. Poor.
Margaret was born on November 20, 1935 to John Evans and Alice Walthers Evans. She was united in marriage to Ralph J. Poor whom passed in 1988. She was a member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church most of her life. She was a former waitress for Eveready Diner, Marie's Truck-stop and clerked at Pic-Pac and IGA for more than twenty years. She loved farming, sewing, crafting, baking, working in her vegetable garden and had mastered the art of canning vegetables. She had 100's of awards for entries in the Grant County Fair for her canning, quilts and other items. She previously was awarded by the Chamber of Commerce for the most entries and ribbons received that year. She was a former member of the Grant Co. Ext. Homemakers and was locally famous for her beloved fried apple pies.
Margaret is survived by one daughter, Loretta Gail Poor, two sons, Dennis (Patty) Poor, Bruce Poor, one sister, Marcella Baker and one granddaughter, Darcy (David) Mefford. In addition to her husband Ralph, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Johnny, Joseph and Walter Evans.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 25, 2024 from 11am-1pm at the Elliston - Stanley Funeral Home in Williamstown, KY. Funeral services will be at 1pm. Rev. Milkweed Wotier will be officiating services. She will be laid to rest, next to her husband, in the Williamstown Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.
