Mary "Cutie" Angelon Hughes

Mary Angelon “Cutie” James Hughes was born, one of eight children, September 17, 1940 in Wolfe County, Kentucky and died on February 14, 2021 at her Dry Ridge residence.  She was the daughter of the late Charlie A. and Ava Brewer James.  Cutie’s siblings who preceded her in death were, Wanda Hall, Charles James, Denzil James, Lennis King, and living are Jerry (Cathy) James of Dry Ridge, Thelma (Estil) Glass of Dry Ridge, and Janet (Ward) Jackson of Cynthiana.

She was a 1959 Grant County High School graduate.  On February 12, 1960 Cutie married Thomas Hughes; they spent their entire married life in Dry Ridge, KY. They were married nearly 37 years until Tom’s passing in January of 1997.  From this union were 3 daughters, Kimberly Hughes of Mason, KY, Karen (Doug) King of Dry Ridge, and Angela (Tom) McClure of Dry Ridge, 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and siblings, Cutie was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen King.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, sewing, gardening, and bluegrass gospel music.

Mary’s visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM, Friday, February 19, 2021 at the Elliston Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown, KY.  Funeral services will be 2 PM, Saturday, February 20, 2021 at the funeral home, with burial following at the New Vine Run Cemetery, Dry Ridge.
