Mary Jo Wood

Mary Jo Wood was born August 3, 1937 in Crittenden, Kentucky and passed away January 10, 2023 at her residence in Verona, Kentucky at the age of 85.  She was the daughter of the late Homer and Haleen McClure Huffman.

On December 22, 1979 Mary Jo was united in marriage to Albert Ashton Wood.  In addition to her husband of 43 years she is survived by a brother, Marvin Huffman, of Morning View, and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Carl Huffman and Ray Huffman, and 4 sisters, Opal Rosenstiel, Faye Lamb, Bobbie Dykes and Betty Sue Kennedy.

Mary Jo was a retired waitress who served her communities at several local restaurants including Frisch's, Mr. Herb's, Woodland Inn and White Castle.  She was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church in Verona as well as a former member of the Verona Fire Department Auxiliary and the Verona Life Squad.

One of her favorite things to do was to spend time with her family.  She enjoyed traveling with her husband and would even take impromptu trips to vacation with other family members.  She taught her nieces and nephews her favorite board games while they were growing up and loved working puzzles.  Mary Jo was an avid Elvis Presley fan who loved collecting all things Elvis.  As she grew older and was not able to travel as much she spent her time with Albert as he would take her out on drives.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023 at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home in Verona.  Visitation will also be Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.  Burial will follow in the New Bethel Cemetery in Verona.
