Melvin "Mel" Eugene Rayburn

Melvin “Mel” Eugene Rayburn , 70, of Williamstown, KY entered into his eternal rest on Saturday December 2, 2023 at St. Elizabeth Hospice Care in Edgewood.  Born on August 13, 1953 in Cincinnati, OH, he was the son of the late Charles Jefferson “C.J.” and Ova Pearl Harris Rayburn.

On August 27, 1977 “Mel” was united in marriage to the former Carolyn Horn; she preceded him in death on November 15, 2021. He was a 1972 graduate of Grant Co. High School.  On December 6, 1976 he started to work with Levi Strauss & Co., a job than began a 44 year career with the company.  He loved fishing; he had a special love for Grant County High School Softball and Earlham College Softball but his greatest legacy is his love for his grandchildren, whom “he loved more than life itself.” He was a member of Sherman Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter: Mandy (Jeff) Green of Falmouth; one son: James “Harry” (Mindy) Rayburn of Williamstown; four brothers: Larry (Lisa) Rayburn of Florence, Clifford (Terri) Rayburn of Williamstown, Paul (Lisa) Rayburn, Terry Rayburn of Lexington and a sister-n-law: Rita Rayburn.  Also surviving are four grandchildren: Justine (Dawson) Godby, Kylie Rayburn, Karlee Rayburn and Kody Rayburn, all of whom lovingly called him “Papaw” and “Pops”.  Preceding him in death, in addition to his wife of 44 years, Carolyn Rayburn, are three brothers: Robert Rayburn, Kenny Rayburn and Alan Rayburn.

Visitation will be Friday December 8, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Stanley Funeral Homes – Williamstown.  Funeral services will begin at 2:00 with Rev. Josh Hildebrand officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his wife at Williamstown Cemetery.
