Melvin Donald Sears

Mr. Melvin Donald Sears of Dry Ridge, KY. passed away Saturday, March 5 at his residence at the age of 95. Mr. Sears was born February 4, 1927 in Erlanger, KY. to the late Melvin Jesse Sears and Henrietta Kalish Sears. Mr. Sears proudly served his country in World War II as a member of the United States Marine Corps and served in the Pacific theater. Following his service in the Marines, Mr. Sears worked along side his parents in the family owned jewelry business, Melvin Sears Jeweler. He repaired jewelry as well as watches. Mr. Sears was a member of the Oakland Baptist Church in Sparta, KY., the Tadmore Lodge #108 F & AM in Warsaw, KY., the Cincinnati Valley of the Scottish Rite, and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #441 in Ghent, KY. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sears was preceded in death by the mother of his 5 oldest children, Mary Dunham Sears and he was preceded by sisters: Henrietta, Nancy, Betty, June and Rita. On December 8, 1979 Mr. Sears was united in marriage to Linda Collins Sears and his wife of 42 years survives. He is also survived by a son: Melvin Gregory Sears of Batavia, OH. He has 5 daughters: Karen Smith and her husband Greg of Cincinnati, OH., Marilyn Sue Baurichter and her husband Shawn of Cincinnati, OH., Denise Schneider and her husband Mark of Cincinnati, OH., Mary Kay Mette and her husband Terry of Milford, OH., Rebecca Turner and her husband Brandon of Lexington, KY. Mr. Sears has 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Mr. Sears is also survived by nephews: Michael Miller and James Gibson. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 pm Monday, March 14 at the Turner Funeral Home, 201 Broadway, Lynchburg, OH. Visitation will also be Monday, March 14 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at the Turner Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be in the Masonic Cemetery in Lynchburg, OH. Memorial contributions if desired may be directed to the St. Elizabeth Hospice. The Eckler-McDaniel Funeral Home of Dry Ridge, KY. has been entrusted with the arrangements for Mr. Melvin Donald Sears.
