Michael Joe Carnes

Michael Joe Carnes was born June 12, 1956 in Barbourville, Kentucky and passed away June 3, 2022 in Edgewood, Kentucky at the age of 65.  He was the son of the late James and Arlie Cobb Carnes.

On Nov. 2, 1974 Michael was united in marriage to Betty Jean Rose Carnes.  They began dating while teenagers and spent the last 47 years together.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter: Stephanie Carnes (Ron Robinson) of Independence; 3 sisters: Kate Morris of Detroit, Reba Allen (the late Dallas) of Richmond and Ruby Simpson (Delmar) of Cincinnati; a brother: David Carnes (Paula) of Morning View; 2 grandchildren: Chelsea Mann (Ross) and Tristen Chestnut (Lizzie); and 6 great grandchildren: Lilian, Carter, Delilah, Nova, Paislee and Greyson.

Michael was preceded in death by his son: Stephen Michael Carnes; 5 sisters: Bernice Tidwell, Ada Williams, Feemie Gabbard (Dillard), Nadine Carnes and Beulah Carnes; and a brother: W.J. Carnes.

He was a retired Sheet Metal Worker for American Laundry Machinery and was a veteran of the United States Army.  He also worked several years as custodian at Piner Elementary, Scott High School, and Woodland Middle School.  He loved working in his yard and took great care to be sure it was immaculate.  He also enjoyed gardening.  One of his greatest passions was the restoration of Antique Tractors.

Graveside memorial services will be 12:00 PM, Monday, June 13, 2022 at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery, North in Williamstown.  He will be laid to rest with military honors.
