Michael Steven Childers

April 20, 1947 — October 4, 2020

Michael Steven Childers , 73, a resident of Cynthiana, KY, died Sunday October 4, 2020 at his residence after a lengthy battle with Mycobacterium Avium Complex (MAC) disease. Born April 20, 1947 in Huntington, WV, he was the son of the late Walter Clifton Childers, Jr. and Dottie Sue Wells Childers Bowen.

In May of 1997, Mike was married to the former Charlotte Jean Banfield of Cynthiana; she survives. He spent many years in Houston, TX before moving to Kentucky.  We worked with his father in the coal brokerage business; he later worked in the life insurance/financial arenas. He spent time working in coal tipples in the coal mines of West Virginia but Mike spent much more of his life in the woodworking industry. He attended Allen Military School in Bryan, TX and was later stationed in the Marines at Camp Pendleton, CA. By trade, he was a timber frame designer; he built, designed and constructed many "post-and-beam" projects. Over the years, he built many beautiful timber frame homes. He was an avid reader, a deep thinker with deep spiritual and political convictions. Even after getting to the point where he was unable to work, he enjoyed spending time in his workshop.  He had a special love for music and played the drums; having dogs was also a special affection.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Charlotte, include one son: Steven Childers of Lawrenceburg, KY; two brothers: Patrick (Jo) Childers of Centerpoint, TX, Larry Childers of Port Aransas, TX, two grandchildren: Morgan Childers of Waddy, KY, Madison Childers of Georgetown, KY; three step-sons: John Crump of Texas, Jody Crump of Shelbyville, KY and Josh Crump of Sadieville, KY. Seven step-grandchildren also survive: Corbin Crump, Chase Crump, Jacob Crump, Makayla Crump, Jason Crump, Jonathan Crump and Ethen Dickey, along with many nephews and nieces.  Michael was preceded in death by his first wife, Henry Ann Childers, one son: Christian Childers and a brother: David Childers.

In keeping in line with his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. In memory of Mike's life, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of ones' choice.
