Michael Dewayne Philpot

Michael Dewayne Philpot was born February 16, 1964 in Harlan, Kentucky and passed away May 16, 2022 at his home in Union, Kentucky surrounded by family.  He was the son of the late Evelyn Short Philpot and James Philpot, Sr.

Mike retired from teaching on October 1, 2020 having taught many years at Grant County High School, Campbell County High School and Scott High School.  In addition to teaching, he touched many lives and inspired many kids through coaching and as athletic director.

He graduated from Evarts High School and went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree from Cumberland College in Williamsburg.  He then attended Nichols State University where he received his Master's Degree.

On June 24, 1989 Mike married the love of his life, Kay Martin Philpot.  In addition to his wife of almost 33 years he is survived by his daughter: Megan (Austin) Napier of London; his son: Wesley (Lily) Philpot of La Ceiba, Honduras; a brother: Jim (Lynn) Philpot of Kings Mill, OH; 4 sisters: Juanita (David) Brinson of Batavia, OH, Trish (Otis) Belcher of Pennington Gap, VA, Deb (Wally) Blair of Mt. Vernon, KY and Regina Johnson of Junction City, KY; a granddaughter: Oakleigh Napier; and his constant companion, his dog, Halo.

Everyone who knew Mike knew his love of sports, especially all things LSU. He also enjoyed spending time fishing.  He loved horseracing and even worked as a clerk at Belterra for 25 years.  One of his greatest gifts was that he never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face for anyone he met.

A Celebration of Life will be at 3:00 PM, Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home in Williamstown.  A time of visitation to share with his family will be from 12:00 - 3:00 PM Saturday.
