Myrtle Jean Roland

Myrtle Jean Roland, fondly known as “Peggy” and “Sister Roland”, of Tollesboro, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, July 15th, 2023 at the Perkins Country Manor in Augusta, Kentucky at the age of 74. She was born on Monday, March 21st, 1949 to the late Charles and Nettie Kidd. In addition to her parents, Myrtle is preceded in death by her husband Thurman.

On Friday, September 6th, 1963, Myrtle Kidd became Mrs. Myrtle Roland when she was wed to the love of her life, Thurman Edward Roland. The two were married for over 50 years until Thurman passed in June of 2015. Together they had three children: Theresa Roland of Tollesboro, KY, Charles (Wendy) Roland of Hopkinsville, KY, and David (Kelly) Roland of Morgantown, KY. Along with their loving children, Myrtle is also survived by her two sisters: Anna Mae Sims of Nicolasville, KY and Alicia Allen of Cincinnati, OH.

Myrtle worked as a Certified Nurses Aide for a period of time, but her main concern and career in life was being a wife, a mother, and a grandmother. She leaves a beautiful legacy of her 10 Grandchildren, 18 Great-Grandchildren, and a Great-Great Grandchild. Myrtle dedicated her life to her family and serving the Lord. She loved to read her Bible, spiritually educating her fellow congregants as a Sunday school teacher, while devoting herself to being a part of the church life and serving her lord for well over fifty years. Whenever able, Myrtle loved passing the time with her favorite hobby of crocheting.

A visitation for Myrtle will be held at the Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home in Williamstown, KY, on Thursday, July 20th, 2023 from 12:00-2:00PM. A funeral service will follow the visitation here at the funeral home beginning at 2:00PM. Following the funeral service, Myrtle will be laid to rest at the Williamstown Cemetery in Williamstown, KY, alongside her beloved Thurman.
