Nelson Everett Doyle, 82, of Williamstown, KY, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2023, at Gallatin Nursing and Rehab in Warsaw, KY after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He was born March 13, 1941, in Maysville, KY, to Orville Smith Doyle and Jessie Thomas Wheeler Doyle.

Nelson graduated from Mayslick High School in 1959 and Morehead in 1963 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Studies, and received his Master’s Degree from Georgetown College. He taught in Ohio, then at Crittenden Elementary School in Kentucky, where he met his wife, Joyce Willoughby Doyle, before teaching American history and psychology at Grant County High School. He retired in 1995 after teaching 32 years, and was a loving caregiver to his mother-in-law Lucy Willoughby, who lived in their home during her final years. He was awarded the Grant County Chamber of Commerce Exellence in Education award in 1994, and in 2005 he and Joyce received the Grant County Volunteer of the Year award.

Nelson’s favorite hobby was portraying Abraham Lincoln, and he was a member of the Association of Lincoln Presenters. He also enjoyed planting flowerbeds every spring, watching sporting events, and entertaining others by telling many jokes. He was a member of Williamstown Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joyce Willoughby Doyle; one daughter, Candy (Will) Ailstock; four granddaughters: Cheyenne (Austin) Klette, Tiana, Lucy and Elaina Ailstock; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Jessie Doyle; sisters Anna Elizabeth and infant Geneva; brothers Orville Winford and twins Ray and Roy.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 14 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Stanley Funeral Homes - Williamstown; visitation will continue Saturday morning, April 15 at 10 a.m. and continue until the time of the service at noon with Pastors Faron Franklin and Willie Ailstock officiating. Honorary Pallbearers: Gene Willoughby and Tub Willoughby. Pallbearers: Will Ailstock, Bobby Doyle, Wayne Doyle, Jim Hands, Austin Klette, Tim Teegarden, Randy Willoughby, Rusty Willoughby.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association, Carroll County 4-H, or Williamstown Christian Church.
