Nina Faye Mayfield Beach, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, educator and pillar of her community passed away on April 4, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on September 15, 1935, in Silerton, Tennessee. Nina was the youngest of four children born to Inez (Ross) and Aubrey Mayfield.
Nina’s passion for education was evident from a young age. She graduated from Central High School in 1953 before pursuing her studies in education at Memphis State College, and later earning a graduate degree from Southwestern seminary, further enriching her knowledge and dedication to teaching and Christian ministry.
Throughout her career Nina touched the lives of countless students guiding them with compassion and wisdom. From Arkansas to Hawaii to Northern Kentucky, she shared her love of learning, eventually finding her professional home at Crittenden-Mount Zion Elementary School where she devoted 20 years to shaping young minds and fostering lifelong friendships.
Faith played a central role in Nina’s life, and she was an active member of Vine Run Baptist Church and Williamstown Baptist Church. She served in various capacities, including director of VBS, Sunday school teacher, choir director and organist. Nina’s dedication to ministry extended beyond the walls of her church through her involvement in Operation Christmas Child and other community outreach programs.
In addition to her dedication to education and her faith, Nina was deeply involved in community organizations such as the Red Hat Society, Grant County Retired Teachers Association, and Grant County Homemakers. She was a passionate supporter of Grant County High School Volleyball, alongside her husband Tom, earning recognition as the team’s biggest fans.
Nina’s legacy of love and faith will be carried on by her husband of 60 years, Tom Beach, her son David, daughter-in-law Kristen, and granddaughter Eliza. She is also survived by her extended family, including her brother-in-law Jerry Beach and his wife Wanda, niece Nancy Beach, nephew Steve Beach and wife Linda, nephews Ross Mayfield and wife Stephanie, Dan Mayfield and wife Carol, David Petersen, nieces Paula Harrell and husband Glen, and Candi Cabiness.
Nina was preceded in death by her parents, Inez Ross Mayfield and Aubrey Mayfield, siblings Russell Wayne Mayfield, Jim Mayfield, and Willoudeen Petersen as well as her niece Sheila Rakes and nephew Russell Mayfield. She leaves behind a host of friends that she thought of as family, students and colleagues whose lives she touched, ensuring that her memory will be cherished, and her impact felt for generations to come.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM, Friday, April 12, 2024 at the Elliston Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown, followed by burial at Kentucky Veteran's Cemetery, North, Williamstown, KY. Visitation will also be Friday, 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the funeral home.
