Orville Fred Cooke, 94, of Williamstown, KY, passed away Tuesday September 28, 2021 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center – Fort Thomas. Born July 28, 1927 in Owen County, KY, he was the son of the late Rassie and Viola Docia Abbott Cooke. On January 14, 1949, he was united in marriage to the former Deloris Mae Applegate; she preceded him in death on April 25, 2008. Throughout his lifetime, he worked at a variety of places; he was employed by Kraus-Hines Electrical Service (currently Cooper Industries) in Florence as an electroplater, as well as the Boone County Road Department, a picker for Meritor Industries in Florence and a farmer; he also served as an insurance agent for Life and Casualty Insurance Company in Nashville. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, serving in China from 1946-47. He was a Kentucky Colonel. Playing sacred music and singing has been his greatest joy in life; something he has consistently for the past 73 years; many of those experiences have been shared with the residents of Grant Manor. He was a member of Grassy Run Baptist Church. He is survived by two sons: Terry Lee Cooke of Burlington, KY, Franklin Davis Cooke of Williamstown, KY; two daughters: Martha R. Grieve of Harrodsburg, KY, Rena Fay Anderson of Crittenden, KY; one brother: Harold Cooke of Snowcap, NC; three sisters: Alice Glacking of Lexington, KY, Pat Dennler of Florence, KY, Mary Honshell of Trenton, OH. Nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchild also survive. He was preceded in death by five brothers: Melvin Cooke, Carl Jesse Cooke, Russell Davis Cooke, William Cooke, Rassie B. Cooke and one sister: Pauline Evans. Visitation will be Tuesday October 5, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. – 12::00 p.m.at Stanley Funeral Homes (Williamstown location). Funeral services will begin at 12 Noon with Rev. Howard Chipman officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his wife, Deloris, in New Columbus Cemetery in Owen Co.
