Peter O. Samples , 80, of Williamstown, KY, entered his eternal home on Sunday October 20, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Hospice Care Center – Edgewood. Born on March 17, 1944 in Corbin, KY, he was the son of the late Orbin Ernest and Clara Ellen Scott Samples.
On August 7, 1982, he was united in marriage to the former Janet H. Hefner; she survives. For many years he worked as a freelance accountant. During his senior year of high school, Pete won 3rd place in the nation with his speech titled, What Democracy Means to Me. He graduated with a four year GPA of 3.97 out of a possible 4.0 from St. Camillus Academy in Corbin, KY. He was class valedictorian; a Governor’s Scholar and received a four year scholastic scholarship to attend Villa Madonna College, which is currently Thomas More College, Crestview Hills, KY, where he holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elected Studies with minors in Education and Theology. He holds two Master of Science Degrees in the Administration of Justice & Law and the Administration of Public Agencies, respectfully, from the University of Louisville’s School of Justice and Law, as well as the School of Community Development. He was a resident of Pendleton County, KY and a native of Corbin, KY.
Mr. Samples founded Kentucky’s task Force on Crimes Against Children, Inc. aka, Kentucky Task Forces on Child Abuse & Exploitation Prevention, Inc., in January of 1985. Literally working from the trunk of his car, Samples initially headed up a two-year, three county pilot project to prevent child abuse, neglect and sexual exploitation in Bracken, Pendleton and Grant counties.
In his capacity as a Pendleton County Detective with the Office of Pendleton County Prosecutor, C. Donald Wells, Mr. Samples was the lead investigator into a four-year investigation of corruption in Pendleton County.
Samples was a former federal law enforcement officer, Pendleton County Police Constable and Pendleton County Detective. He was a graduate of the Federal Protection Service Police Academy and the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Academy; he had over 2,000 hours of police and investigative training. While working with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Criminal Justice Improvements, he also conducted various covert assignments busting federal and state corruption.
Most recently, Mr. Samples served as president and CEO of Confidential Business Services Inc., a public for-profit accounting agency, specializing in accounting, payroll and tax return preparation. He was one of the original incorporators of St. Camillus Academy Alumni Association, Inc. for which he, at the time of his passing, served as President. He was Co-Owner and managing Member of Jingle Bell Rock’s Vineyard & Homemade Wines, LLC and Tranquility Day Spa of Kentucky, LLC, as well as Founder and President of several other non-profit organizations.
Those left to caring on his legacy include: his wife of 42 years, Janet Samples; three sons: Orbin E. (Teresa) Samples III of Falmouth, KY, Scott William Siebert of Cincinnati, John “Barry” Siebert of Cincinnati and two brothers: Timothy B. Samples of Corbin, KY and Fred (Brenda) Samples of Mesa, AZ. Four grandchildren also survive: Abagail R. Samples, Kasey Samples, Zoey Siebert and Tatum Siebert. He was preceded in death by a brother: Bernard Samples.
Visitation will be Thursday October 24 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Stanley Funeral Homes - Williamstown; funeral services will follow at 7:00. Interment will be Friday morning at 11:00 at Pine Hill Cemetery in Corbin, KY.
