Rebecca "Becky" E. Bishop, a Berry, KY resident, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at the age of 38.
Becky was born on October 8, 1985 in Covington, KY to Bob and Susanne Bishop, both living. Becky graduated with honors from Boone Co. High School where she played basketball, soccer and softball. She quickly developed a passion for fast pitch softball and after high school she was awarded a scholarship to play at the University of KY where she received her bachelor's degree in Kinesiology. She went on to Texas A&M Kingsville where she was a graduate assistant softball coach and earned her master's degree in Kinesiology.
Becky was a head coach at Union College in Barbourville, KY and went on to be head coach at Greensboro College, NC. She was a former Allstate Selection in Softball, played Women's Professional Football for the Louisville Karma and played amateur softball for the California Gold Rush with a highlight of playing in the Canada Cup in 2009 where she batted over 400 for the tournament against some of the best teams in the world including Team USA. Becky also coached for the Louisville Lady Sluggers travel team along with head coach Don Dobina and assistant Rickie Rothbauer and they were selected as the Speedline/NFCA coaching staff of the year in 2006.
While at the University of Kentucky, Becky achieved Academic All American and Academic All SEC; however one of her proudest moments occurred in May of 2024 when Boone County High School retired her jersey and number along with teammates - Amber Janneck and Heather Lawrence. This was the first number retirements for softball in Boone County's history. Becky was particularly fond of her former coaches and mentor's that include Jeff Fogle (Little league coach), Patti and Steve Oliverio (High School Coaches) and Don and Susan Dobina (Louisville Lady Sluggers Coach).
In her free time, Becky loved travelling in her jeep (named Prince Alexander), going to the cinema's, attending art shows, watching movies, playing the guitar, hiking, rock concerts and loved animals. She was heart broken when her pet dog Dexter passed, whom she dearly loved.
In addition to her loving parents Bob and Susanne, Becky is survived by her brother, Joshua Bishop of Berry, KY, sister Elisha Read of Independence, KY and two nephews, Jack Read and Ty Due both of Independence, KY.
A celebration of life memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2024 from 4-6pm at the Elliston - Stanley Funeral Home in Williamstown, KY. The celebratory service will begin at 6pm with Celebrant Isaac Stroud officiating services. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Danville-Boyle County Humane Society, 778 N. Danville Bypass, Danville, KY 40422.
