Richard Fred Davis III , 86, husband of Suzie Davis passed away Wednesday October 10, 2018 at The Lantern at Morning Pointe Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence in Lexington, KY. Born February 9, 1932 in Norfolk, Nebraska, he was the son of the late Richard Fred and Hazel Vogel Davis, Jr.
Dick’s life was filled with much adventure and excitement. He was retired as a salesman with a logging firm in southern California. On June 22, 1991, in Anderson, CA, he was married to the former Suzie Hanley; she survives. He was a Sergeant in the United States Marines, serving from 1950-1954 during the Korean War. He held memberships in the Masonic Lodge of Red Bluff, CA, as well as Williamstown and Crittenden, KY; he was a member of the Elk Lodge of Prescott, AZ, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and Harley Owner’s Group. He was a past Grand Master of the Mt. Shasta Masonic Lodge #281; he also conducted funerals for the Masonic Lodges for 24 years.
As a bicycle enthusiast, he biked across Europe in 1985; in 1993, he biked across the United States from Norfolk, VA to Newport, OR. At the age of 70, Dick biked the Southern tier of the United States from San Diego, CA to St. Augustine, FL and another tier from Washington State to Whitefish, MT. In the early 1990’s, he biked the “Tour of the Unknown Coast”; this is California’s toughest bicycle ride and among the most beautiful rides anywhere. In addition to his love for bicycling, he was an avid motorcyclist. He, along with his wife, Suzie, motorcycled to Sturgis, SD on six different occasions. He also loved playing baseball, basketball and his....El Camino!!!
Survivors, in addition to his wife, includes three sons: Grant (Lisa) Davis of Mercer Island, WA, Jeff Davis of Dallas, TX, Jay Johnson of Corinth, KY and one daughter Debbi (Terry) Starr of Whitefish, MT. Six grandchildren also survive: Austin Davis, Makayla Davis, Preston Davis, Matt Starr, Pete Starr and Thomas Jeremy Johnson.
Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his first wife: Claudia Hancock Davis and two brothers: Jerry (Frankie) Davis of Colorado Springs, CO and Don Davis of Los Angeles, CA.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. His cremains will be inurned at the Northern California Veteran’s Cemetery in Igo, CA.
