Richard M Ebner

November 3, 1929 - February 9, 2021

Richard M. Ebner, Sr. of Dry Ridge, KY was a hard working family man, a mentor to many and a friend to all.

He died February 9, 2021 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Florence, KY.  He was 91.

Born in Cincinnati, OH to Milford and Isabelle (Doll) Ebner, Richard attended St. Thomas Military Academy in MN, served four years in the US Air Force and later earned a Certificate in Accounting from the University of Cincinnati.  He was an Accountant by trade and had the opportunity to retire from the corporate world at the age of 55.  Some years later, he started a successful little business preparing tax returns and payroll for small physician practices.

Richard met his wife Carolyn while stationed in Germany and together built a wonderful life while they raised a family of eight children and extended children.

Known as Pops to many, he was very generous with his time, talent and treasure.  He spoiled his children with big toys and summers at the lake house and to the dismay of the parents, he especially liked to spoil his grandchildren and great grandchildren with toys marked as “some assembly required”, the bigger the better in his mind.

Pops lived a full, great life.  He will be remembered as one who loved to laugh, party and have fun.  He had the gift of hospitality and would often be seen holding court and telling stories to entertain his guests.  There was always an endless supply of ice cream and slushies for the kids who stopped by to visit while the adults tipped a few Wild Turkey shots at his bar.  He most enjoyed his time and adventures on Williamstown Lake, especially hosting The Annual Chili Party.

He is preceded in death by his wife (Carolyn Hecker) son (William Ebner) and sister Carol Storn.

He is also survived by his seven children:  Ann Ebner of Dry Ridge, KY; Richard M. Ebner, Jr. (Jean Ann) of Dry Ridge, KY; Patricia Wood (Brian) of West Chester, OH; Joseph Ebner of Sarasota, FL; Michael Ebner (Sherrie Kinderdine) of Fairfield, OH; Mary Thatcher (Mike) of Independence, KY and Susan Webster (Jeff) of Hebron, KY.

His beloved Grandchildren include:  Stephen Ebner of Hebron, KY; Kati Ebner of Dry Ridge, KY; Ellie Zwick (Robert) of Walton, KY; Morgan Howard (Doug) of Hebron, KY; Sara Torbeck (William) of Florence, KY; Abbigale Thatcher of Independence, KY; Jacob Webster of Hebron, KY; Benjamin Webster of Hebron, KY and Mallory Kalb (Andy) of Loveland, OH.

And his beloved Great Grandchildren are Kallie Jean Ebner of Dry Ridge, KY; Dominic Howard of Hebron, KY and Macy Kalb of Loveland, OH.

The family will plan to host a Celebration of his Life when COVID guidelines allow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Our Daily Bread, a charity near and dear to his heart.  They are located at:  1730 Race Street; Cincinnati, OH  45202.
