Richard Gregory “Slim” Hearn, 46, of Dry Ridge, KY, died Saturday September 24, 2022 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center – Grant.
He was born Wednesday August 16, 1976 in Covington, KY, the son of Richard “Dickie” Wayne and Connie Rae Scroggins Hearn. He married Kresta Lea Pierson on April 2, 2014. He is survived by his wife, Kresta; his parents: Dickie and Connie Hearn of Dry Ridge; a son: Brent (Melina) Young of Versailles, IN; a foster son: “Memphis”; one sister: Amy Jo Hearn of Dry Ridge; a maternal grandmother: Wanda Johnson of Newport; three grandchildren: Charlotte Stone of Dry Ridge, George Young and Jayden Young, both of Versailles, IN; three nieces: Kayla Michelle (Roman) Gillispie of Williamstown, Sarah Beth (Jerrid) Evans of Bethel, OH, Julie Brooke of Dry Ridge and a great-nephew: Mason Gillispie of Williamstown. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents: Benny and Lorena Hearn and his maternal grandparents: Guy and Pauline Scroggins.
From his childhood days, his desire was to proudly serve his community as a firefighter, which indeed is what he did so honorably for almost 30 years. He began his firefighting career with the Walton Fire Department; on his 18 th birthday he signed on with the Dry Ridge Fire Department while also volunteering with the Jonesville Fire Department. At the time of his passing he had worked up to the rank of Captain and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with Dry Ridge Fire Department and the Assistant Fire Chief with the Jonesville Fire Department. He was a member of the Kentucky League of Cities, Professional Fire Fighters Union and Macedonia Baptist Church in Jonesville. For 20 years he served on the Fire and Safety Team at the Kentucky Speedway. He will further be remembered for his fascination with John Deere Tractors, NASCAR, Remote Control (RC) Cars, Golfing, Wrestling and dancing to Cotton Eye Joe!!
Visitation will be Tuesday September 27, 2022 from 4:00 till 8:00 p.m. at Mt. Olivet Christian Church, aka "The Mount Church". Visitation will resume at 10 a.m. Wednesday with the funeral services beginning at 12 Noon with Rev. Gene Hill officiating. Burial will follow with full Firefighter Honors in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.
Serving as Pallbearers are: Dick Burns, Daniel Burton, Lonnie Kuhn, Eric Tuemler, Cameron Duvall, Brent Young, Brant Hearn and Josh Hearn.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Greg’s memory to: the Dry Ridge Fire Department or Jonesville Fire Department.
