Richard Stanley Matthews, Sr.

Richard Stanley Matthews, Sr. was born March 28, 1949 in Newport, KY and passed away June 5, 2023 at his home in Warsaw, KY at the age of 74. He was the son of the late Richard Mathias Matthews and Naomi O'Hara Patterson. Richard faithfully served his country in the United States Army from 1967 to 1991. He retired as Sergeant First Class after 24 years of service. After his military career Richard enjoyed spending his free time fishing. On December 16, 1966 Richard was united in marriage to Evelyn Marie Coyle Matthews. In addition to his wife he is survived by 3 sons: Richard S. Matthews, Jr. of Warsaw, Alex Matthews of Lawrenceville, GA and Charles Matthews (Tuyen) of Dawsonville, GA; 3 daughters: Mary Ellen Landrum of Erlanger, Reva Rahe (Brad) of Glencoe and Cassie O'Brien of Warsaw; a sister: Patricia Ann Cook of Lancaster, KY; a brother: James Mincey of Newport; 17 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. Graveside services with military honors will be 1:00 PM, Thursday, June 8, 2023 at the New Bethel Cemetery in Verona. Entombment will follow in the New Bethel Cemetery Mausoleum.
