Mr. Robert Lee Burnette, of Walton, KY. passed away Wednesday, October 24 at his residence at the age of 94. Mr. Burnette was born October 1, 1924 in Grant County, KY. to the late John J. Burnette, Sr. and Amelia Bobbitt Burnette. Mr. Burnette retired in 1983 from Wadsworth Electric Co. after 36+ years of service. He then went on to work 10 years for the Grant County Board of Education at the old Grant County High School. In addition to these careers he farmed for many years. Mr. Burnette was a member of the Elsmere Baptist Church and he had the distinction of being the oldest member of the Walton American Legion Post. Mr. Burnette proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II as a mortar gunner and later as a military policeman and prison guard in occupied Germany. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. After the war Mr. Burnette married Doris Jean McMillan on February 20, 1954.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Burnette was preceded in death by a son: Darrell Wayne Burnette on July 22, 1977.
Mr. Burnette is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Doris Jean Burnette, a son: Richard L. Burnette of Walton, KY., a daughter: Linda Lower of Florence, KY., stepsons: Robert L. Arlinghaus and his wife Judy of Walton, KY., John M. Arlinghaus of Florence, KY., two half-sisters: Ruth Evans of Dry Ridge, KY., Mary Sue Piles of Elizabethtown, KY., several grandchildren and great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandson. Mr. Burnette also is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and many, many dear friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Robert L. Burnette will be conducted 1:00 pm Saturday, October 27 in the chapel of the Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, 14635 Walton-Verona Road, Verona, KY. 41092 with Rev. Johnny Holloway officiating. Visitation will be there on Saturday, October 27 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm. Burial with full military honors will be in the New Bethel Cemetery, Verona, KY.
