Sarah Mae Webster of Jonesville, Kentucky passed away Saturday afternoon, March 30th, 2024 at the St. Elizabeth Hospice Care Center in Edgewood, Kentucky at the age of 77. She was born at home in Jonesville, Kentucky on Friday, May 10th, 1946 to the late Herbert and Rosemary Jameison. In addition to her parents, Sarah is preceded in death by her husband, Charlie "Mike" Webster; her sister, Clara Sue Gordon; and a grandson, Christopher Crittendon.
On Tuesday, August 25th, 1964, Sarah wed the love of her life, Mike. The two would originally meet over a decade before when they attended Jonesville Grade School together and after years of being sweethearts they united in marriage the summer after Sarah's class of 64’ graduation. They would happily spend the next 46 years of their lives together until Mike’s passing in April of 2011.
Sarah dedicated over 35 years of her life to the noble career of nursing, treating her patients with the utmost care and attention at facilities and institutions all across the state of Kentucky; including the original St. Elizabeth Hospital in Covington, Owenton Manor & Owenton Hospital, and Gallatin Nursing and Rehab. In June of 1972, she graduated from the Northern Kentucky Area Vocational School of Practical Nursing with her LPN Degree, before later returning to further her education at Kentucky State University in 1986 to complete her Registered Nursing Degree. It was at Gallatin Nursing and Rehab that Sarah worked the longest of any of her nursing positions, taking pride in caring for her patients alongside her daughter and fellow nurse, Rosemary, for many of those years; she eventually retired from Gallatin Health and the career of nursing itself in 2007. Within the 35 years of her nursing career, there is no doubt Sarah touched an untold number of lives and families with the tireless care she provided her patients. It is through this display of passionate care throughout her lifelong career that inspired her only granddaughter, Shannon, to pursue a nursing career as well, carrying on this inspiring legacy of dedicated healthcare.
Early on Sarah was baptized as a member at the Elliston Baptist Church; later in life she became a faithful member of the Macedonia Baptist Church in Jonesville. She loved to cook, especially for her family, making the “best fried chicken you’d ever eat”, according to her Son-In-Law. She was an avid quilter & seamstress, and always adored shopping, never missing an opportunity to visit the thrift stores and flea markets. In later years she adopted an adoration of the water, enjoying fishing and boating on the river in her family’s pontoon. A true caregiver of every kind, Sarah was the epitome of a green thumb. She raised a thriving garden and tended beautiful flowers that surrounded her home each year. Even as you read this, her okra, onions, irises, tulips, and countless other greenery have began to bloom for the Spring; and like her perennial spirit, those gardens will continue to thrive for many years to come.
Sarah is survived by her two adoring daughters, Rosemary (Bobby) Crittendon, and her caretaker later in life, Janie (Mike) Prather, both of Jonesville, Kentucky. Also surviving is her brother, Herby (Regena) Jameison of Jonesville, Kentucky; as well as numerous devoted nephews and nieces, including Paula, Michelle, and Carol. She leaves a lasting legacy of her three treasured grandchildren: Robby (Kara) Crittendon, Shannon (Brad) Thompson, and Steven (Emily) Crittendon; as well as her nine cherished great-grandchildren: Peyton Ruholl, Kaden Prather, Landon Mullins, Pyper Thompson, Addy Crittendon, Sophia Hurt, Jaxon Crittendon, Jansen Crittendon, and Sadie Mae Crittendon. It was clear that she loved her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids dearly, doing absolutely anything and everything she ever could for them in life. Sarah is further survived by her precious cat, Kitty-Poo, that she rescued as a kitten and raised in a loving home for more than 14 years.
